The board wanted to stage the PSL next year in Dubai after the scheduled series against India, but now wants a proven and experienced firm to help them decide how the PCB should go about it.
Former PCB chairmen Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi tried to launch the project in their respective tenures but were unable to do so due to various reasons.
“We’ll bring in the best proven consultancy firm shortly to help us establish the PSL as an outstanding brand and tournament,” an official involved in the PSL project told The Express Tribune. “There are firms who have established IPL, Big Bash, NatWest Blast and other T20 leagues around the world so we’re looking for a similar company.”
The official added that there are a number of questions that need professional guidance to be answered. “Should we hold PSL ourselves or outsource it? If ourselves, then how? If outsource, then how? What will be the financial model? What will be the value indicators and when should it be staged?” he said.
PCB awards media rights for five years
The Board of Governors (BoG) approved the awarding of broadcasting rights to Pakistan Television and Ten Sports, joint-bidders for PCB’s next rights’ cycle for five years at a meeting held at the National Cricket Academy on Tuesday.
PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan also informed the BoG that the PCB is devising a five-year strategic plan to further improve the game and to strengthen the existing cricketing structure in Pakistan.
He further said that the plan, which will be presented to the BoG at the next meeting, aims to streamline PCB’s planning related to a number of areas. Among other things, the plan focuses on domestic cricket, grassroots structure, women’s cricket, business development, marketing, and enabling high performance.
The chairman also stated that new regional academies will be set up in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. Additionally, existing academies in Multan and Karachi will be upgraded and made operational.
