Rushna won the first frame 9-11 and was trailing 9-3 in the second before she struck Sadia with her elbow. Sadia failed to recover in time and thus Rushna was disqualified for deliberately causing a serious back injury to her opponent.
“It’s a risk to play squash like this; Sadia was deliberately hit by Rushna and we’ll lodge an official complaint against her conduct,” Sadia’s father Sher Khitab told The Express Tribune.
“She’s getting the treatment and it’s a race against time since no one knows whether she will be able to play in the final qualifying round match tomorrow. The Pakistan Squash Federation disqualified Rushna, but the authorities should take even stricter action to ensure such incidents don’t occur again.”
Meanwhile, Zoya Khalid and Muqaddas Ashraf won their respective hard-fought five-setters against Saima Shoukat and Madina Zafar, while Amna Latif beat Zahab Khan 3-0 with scores of 11-5, 11-4 and 11-9.
India’s Sachika Ingale won in straight games against Farha Manzoor with a scoreline of 11-1, 11-4 and 11-2 and Egypt’s Amina Yousry defeated Neha Khan 3-0 in just 11 minutes. Riffat Anjum also won her match as Samar Anjum retired hurt while trailing 6-4 in the first game.
