Vocational skills: Textile ministry to provide training
The sources said that till date, 60 short trainings and seminars have been conducted
ISLAMABAD:
Ministry of Textile Industry is providing training to 400 persons, especially women in the stitching sector this year while another 200 will be trained further under a programme launched in collaboration with International Labor Organisation(ILO). In addition, under the Stitching Machine Operators Training (SMOT) Scheme, 8,500 trainees – majority of whom were women – were trained in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi to help improve their skills. Official sources said the Ministry of Textile Industry was establishing its first ginning training institute and recently earmarked an area to initiate its construction. The sources said that till date, 60 short trainings and seminars have been conducted on various cotton related topics such as standardisation and farm management. Giving further details, the sources said there are seven Export Development Fund (EDF) training institutes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textile Industry.
