PESHAWAR: An assistant sub inspector (ASI) was shot dead allegedly by the driver of a pickup on Charsadda Road within the jurisdiction of Faqirabad police station on Thursday. Police said Ayaz, a resident of Nowshera deployed in Faqirabad, intercepted a vehicle to check its registration and route permit. “He issued a challan to the driver who was on the route without a permit,” a Faqirabad police officer told The Express Tribune. “This prompted the driver to open fire at the ASI, killing him on the spot.” The official added the driver managed to flee but his name, address and registration number of the vehicle was noted in the challan book and police was raiding various houses to find the culprit.
