One way is detoxification, practiced for centuries by cultures around the world. Not only does a body detox clean your internal organs but it also provides them with much needed nutrients and gives them a break from having to break down and digest food.
Here are five detox smoothies & juices you can try at home:
1. Detox Beet and Carrot Smoothie Recipe

(Serves 1)
1 carrot, peeled, sliced
1 beet, peeled, sliced
½ cup red grapes
1 clementine, peeled
1 slice of ginger, peeled, about the size of a quarter
½ cup green tea
- Steam carrot and beet until just tender, about 10-15 minutes, depending on how thick your slices are. Let cool.
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
2. Citrus & green tea detox smoothie

(Serves 3)
1 navel orange
1 grapefruit
1/2 a lemon
1/2 cup of unsweetened green tea, chilled
1/2 cup of nonfat Greek yogurt
1/2 a frozen banana
1 cup of ice
1/2 tbsp honey
- Brew a cup of green tea, let it cool for a bit and then put it in the fridge to get nice and cold.
- Peel and segment the orange and grapefruit, and add to the blender with the lemon juice, green tea, Greek yogurt, honey, and frozen banana. Blend until just combined.
3. Love Your Liver Juice

(Serves 1)
2 medium beets
1-inch piece fresh ginger
1 lemon, peeled
small handful cilantro
1 chard leaf
½ red apple (optional)
- Juice all the ingredients together and enjoy!
4. ACV Lemon Detox Drink

(Serves 4-8)
2 glasses of water
4 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
4 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
4 tbsp. honey
- Dissolve cinnamon, cayenne, honey, and lemon in hot water (stir well).
- Add apple cider vinegar to mixture.
- Consume right away for a hot tea, or cool and store in airtight jar for an iced detox beverage ready at any time. Lasts up to a week.
5. Green Smoothie

(Serves 1)
1 cup kale or collard greens firmly packed, stems removed, coarsely chopped
1 Granny Smith apple, coarsely chopped
1 ripe banana.
1/2 cup loosely packed fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
- Combine kale, apple, banana, parsley, and 2 1/4 cups water in a blender; blend until smooth.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a little more water.
