Darband police quoted Abdul Qayyum, a resident of Gaar Khurd village, as saying his son Muhammad Asif married Nagina Bibi around five years ago. The couple had a daughter and a son.
Qayyum said his son worked in Malaysia and was last home around two years ago. On Monday night, he was awoken at 3am by his daughter-in-law’s wailing. He went to the room and found it locked from inside.
Qayyum broke into the room and found his 18-month-old grandson Hasan lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit. The toddler was taken to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries as the hospital was far from the village.
According to doctors, the boy’s main artery had been slit with a sharp weapon. Qayyum claimed the victim’s mother suffered from psychological problems and the woman would often beat her children ruthlessly.
He denied there being any reason such as poverty or a marital dispute as a motive for slaying the toddler. The police registered a criminal case against the suspect under Section 302 and have arrested her.
