ISLAMABAD:

A full dress rehearsal ahead of the Pakistan Day parade was held on Saturday at the new parade avenue near Shakarparian amid tight security.

All roads leading to the venue were closed, with army personnel taking complete control of the site. Cellular service remained suspended till the afternoon.

Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force took part in the rehearsal.

An Islamabad Capital Territory Administration official said it was the first time full rehearsal at the new parade avenue.

The event used to be held at the old parade avenue across Parliament House till 2008, when the worsening security situation in the country led to its suspension.

The official said that the CDA and the federal government have invested Rs635 million in the event.
