SWAT: Kohsar Special Education and Swat Scouts Open Group marked the International Day of Disabled Persons with a ceremony in Mingora.

Disabled and special children from Kohsar Special Education and scouts from the Swat Scouts Open Group performed different activities, including skits, which were enjoyed by all.

Addressing the ceremony Mohammad Ali, the chief guest and Director of Khpal Kor Foundation, said, “During the crisis the ratio of the number of disabled people increased, but unfortunately there is no standard institute for special children and only two organizations, Blind Institute under the provincial government and Kohsar Special Education under the federal government are working, but both face a number of issues.

They have no buildings of their own, while they only offer classes up to middle school. The other main issue is the lack of hostels for these students.”

After the restoration of peace ,the government announced a number of projects for children but they have no such strategy for special and disabled children in the pipeline.

“The number of disabled people has increased incredibly ,especially children who are mentally unstable, but the government has done nothing for them.”

For the urgent needs of special children he demanded, “The government should arrange its own buildings both for the Blind Institute and Kohsar Special Education and must start an institute for mentally disabled children, while middle school education should be increased to 12th grade in the Swat valley.”

An awareness walk was also staged by the scouts and special children in Mingora earlier.
