LAHORE: Incidents of sexual abuse are on the rise with every passing day with most cases often not reported in the media. The authorities concerned seem to be least interested and affected by these tragedies. Police pickets at every nook and corner of the country, which have been erected to catch terrorists and criminals, are themselves a source of crime. Those policing these pickets mostly stop motorbike riders and subject them to body searches often in a most humiliating manner or forcefully deprive them of whatever money they possess. In the first place, in a democratic country, this kind of pilfering should not happen and secondly, even if the law enforcers feel the need to search someone’s body, they should make sure that the act is within the limits of civility.
