Enhancing Water Storage: Efforts under way for agriculture needs

Shaista Pervaiz expressed her concerns about looming water shortage.

ISLAMABAD: Maximum efforts are under way to enhance water storage capacity in the country to meet agriculture needs, said State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali. Responding to a query, he said the Prime Minister had released billions of rupees for acquiring land for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam. He said the country needs at least 147 million acre feet storage and consensus has to be evolved with provinces for the construction of more dams. He also informed that funds for constructing Munda Dam had already been released, and the government had arranged a conference on water conservation to enhance awareness. Earlier, the mover of the Calling Attention Notice, Shaista Pervaiz expressed her concerns about looming water shortage and stressed measures for avoiding such situations in the future.
