The United States government, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched an initiative to uplift the agriculture sector and private businesses in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), helping the region’s move towards progress.
The initiative, called the FATA Economic Stabilisation Programme (FATA ESP), is implemented by Creative Associates International in collaboration with the Pakistan government.
USAID FATA ESP will create jobs, and improve economic opportunities in Bajaur, Mohmand and South Waziristan agencies. The program will introduce new farming techniques, develop the irrigation system, and upgrade agriculture infrastructure to improve productivity of 20,000 farmers and livestock holders. The program will also facilitate business groups, traders and investors in conducting business in selected tribal agencies, whereby, they can increase the sales of agriculture inputs and equipment.
