‘Righteous anger’: Police need to step up their game,said CM

The chief minister said those who had lynched two people should be arrested and prosecuted.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday condemned the attack on churches in Youhanabad and directed police to secure worship places for religious minorities in the city. Addressing a meeting, the chief minister said those involved in the attack would be punished. He said safety and security of all citizens was a responsibility of the state. He directed police to tighten security around churches in the city. He said senior police officers should supervise the security arrangements. He also sought a report on a security audit of all worship places in the city.  The chief minister said those who had lynched two people following the attack in Youhanabd should be arrested and prosecuted. He said the government would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Sharif said the police should step up its efforts to maintain law and order in the province. He said the Christian community had a right to protest but peace and order should be maintained.  A preliminary report on the Youhanabad church attacks was also presented to the chief minister.
