PESHAWAR: The third phase of Sehat ka Ittehad, a joint vaccination initiative of the federal and provincial governments, is set to begin on Monday (today).

Inoculation drives will be conducted in 25 districts across the province, based on the campaign’s predesigned plan. Around 5.4 million children will be immunised against nine vaccine preventable diseases.

“A national immunisation drive is being held across the country, hence the third phase of Sehat ka Ittehad will be launched in K-P,” said a health official, adding 14,585 mobile, 1,610 fixed and 606 transit teams will participate in the drive.

IPVs

A senior health department official told The Express Tribune that the government has decided to administer inactivated polio vaccine (IPVs) to infants between the age of four to 23 months during the fourth phase scheduled for next week.

According to him, the department had planned the administration of IPVs last year and it will be incorporated in Sehat ka Ittehad’s next round. He said polio workers have already been trained in this regard.

Eighteen polio cases have been reported from the country thus far; seven from K-P, six from the tribal areas, two from Balochistan and three from Sindh.
