The event commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony and prayers at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada. The fascinated students revisited the army’s 68-year history of valor, sacrifice and commitment to secure the motherland. This was followed by a demonstration of a simulated anti-terrorist operation by the Quick Reaction Force. The students commended the agility and prowess of the Light Commando Battalion.
They also witnessed an arms and equipment display and participated in small arms fire. The programme culminated with flag-lowering ceremony at the Ganda Singh Wala border. The students were thrilled by the smart turnout and impeccable drills of Rangers personnel.
The students showed immense interest in the programme and commended the sacrifices and resolve of the army in the war against terrorism. They applauded the morale and professionalism of the force. They expressed their gratitude to General Sharif for providing them with a lifetime opportunity.
The event was organised under the Know Your Army Programme. The day-long event had been organised to sensitise students about the operational preparedness of the army, security and self-defence. The programme had been especially initiated for youngsters following a directive by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif. The initiative has been taken to enhance the morale, motivation and confidence of youngsters in the armed forces of the nation.
Students from several varsities including the Forman Christian College, Kinnaird College, the Punjab University, the Government College University, the University of Engineering and Technology and the Lahore College for Women University have also participated in the programme.
