TTP threatens attacks in Punjab

Militants threaten more attacks within 14 days, security on high alert ahead of Muharram.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have told Punjab’s government to remove all non-Muslims officials from their posts or they will be killed and their offices will be targeted.

The militants have threatened to target the livestock director general and his office within 14 days.

The Punjab government received the threats in letters from the TTP, which they have forwarded to intelligence agencies.

The threats come after intelligence agencies’ reports revealed to The Express Tribune yesterday that the TTP has planned suicide attacks across the country.

The threats come ahead of the holy month of Muharram, with terrorists purportedly targeting mourning processions, majalis, imambargahs and important religious leaders among other targets such as the Iranian embassy and the chief of Jamat-ud-Dawa, Hafiz Saeed.

The provincial government has directed the civil administration, police and intelligence agencies to provide foolproof security to all non-Muslim officers in the province while police and law enforcement agencies have been directed to immediately put security on high alert across the country and take all necessary security measures.

Rabia Kosar | 13 years ago | Reply There is no good governance in the Punjab province. It should mend its ways, as there was no improvement in the public affairs. PPP was trying to create awareness in backward and poor people for their welfare and empowerment. That was why popularity of the party was increasing. Conspiracies were hatched during all tenures of PPP but courageous leaders and workers had always faced them bravely. President Asif Ali Zardari was committed to the country’s prosperity and development; however, vested interests were creating hurdles in the way. Sharif brothers must take effective measures to control poverty, unemployment, inflation and resolve health and transport problems. Instead of building palaces for themselves, they should help the poor. There were no political prisoners in the country, as the PPP did not believe in politics of vendetta. The party is adhering to its reconciliation policy, and strengthening democracy and the federation. Strong provinces were in the interest of the federation and I hope that PPP will give more autonomy to the provinces. Provinces have been given more autonomy in 18th Amendment and they are responsible for checking the prices and other matters.

If the story is true then we should celebrate for what is termed in urdu as 'kufr tuta khuda khuda kar k' as it is no less a miracle. PML-N stands at the bottom most of the taliban hierarchy followed by Rana Sana Ullah. He is passed by Hafiz Saeed and at the apex stands TTP. By the way why the Taliban-brothers are planning battling themselves? the reporter who has filed this story should also prove into this aspect using his 'sources' in the intelligence agencies.

Hamood | 13 years ago | Reply Why are TTP terrorists still alive? It seems they keep running around like rats between different tribal areas. The govt and the military needs to seriously think about the development and education in the tribal areas. Until that happens, there needs to be a huge fenced wall between the tribal areas and the rest of the country. Everybody coming out or going in these areas must be strictly monitored. All the attacks within the country including Peshawar originate from the tribal areas. Its about time we bring some of the tribes into the 20th-21st century.
