The bench, headed by Justice Aminudin Khan, was hearing a petition, filed by Iqtidar Haider, which claimed that the prime minister had flouted official regulations by appointing his daughter Maryam Nawaz as chairperson of the Youth Loan Scheme.

Calling Maryam’s appointment a blatant violation of the Constitution, Haider pleaded that the prime minister should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution.

In its ruling last year, the superior court had directed the federal government to replace Maryam with another individual as chairperson of the Youth Loan Programme – one of Prime Minister Nawaz’s pet projects aimed at bankrolling small business ventures for the youth.
