Transparency: ‘Hold Senate polls through show of hands’

LAHORE:

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the federal government on an application seeking the court’s directive for holding Senate elections through show of hands.

The judge directed the government to inform it until March 3 whether it would hold the elections by show of hands or not. Advocate Azhar Siddique had filed the application to his pending petition regarding non-implementation of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution during scrutiny of candidates for the upcoming elections.

He said the government’s intention to hold elections through secret ballot was malafide and would lead to horse-trading. He said the government should hold fair elections show of hands.
