Student arrested for sexual assault while attempting to recreate ‘Fifty Shades’ scene

A University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) student leader has been charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old female student in what prosecutors say was a re-enactment of scenes from the film Fifty Shades of Grey, Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday.

According to police reports, Mohammed Hossain — a freshman studying bio-nuclear engineering at UIC — was in his room with a 19-year-old female student with whom he had been intimate previously. After the woman agreed to remove some of her clothing, Hossain allegedly tied her hands and legs and put a necktie over her mouth before hitting her with a belt.

The woman told him to stop, but he started punching her, and went on to sexually assault her, prosecutors say, adding that she was able to leave until his roommate got home. The victim contacted the police after she left Hossain’s dorm, said prosecutors. Hossain posted a Facebook status nearly an hour after the crime was committed stating, “I’m finally satisfied.”

According to USA Today, Hossain was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and a judge set a $500,000 bail. Authorities said Hossain was involved with several leadership programmes at UIC and was a member of UIC Student Alumni Ambassadors and the triathlon team.

Suzaine Suba and Kevin Pham, both former high school classmates of Hossain, said they were caught off guard when they learned Hossain was charged with a crime. Suba said Hossain was a good person and was active at school. “I remember the time when Hossain told me his experience with being bullied in school… he was just one of those individuals who struggled to fit into society,” USA Today quoted Suba as saying. “I’m still trying to understand why he did what he did.”

Pham said Hossain was always eager in obtaining knowledge to expand his mind. However, he said, “Hossain was very pessimistic and would always put himself at the bottom of a totem pole.”
