LONDON: Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal will return for a third spell with Worcestershire, the English county announced Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was recently cleared to bowl again after undergoing remedial work on his action.

However, he failed to satisfy doubts about the legality of his deliveries in time for the ongoing World Cup and withdrew from Pakistan's squad for the showpiece tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Ajmal played a key, if controversial, role in Worcestershire's promotion to the First Division of the County Championship last season by taking wickets with an action subsequently found to contravene the rulebook.

He intends to be back at the Midlands club's New Road headquarters by early July at the latest, with his early season availability dependent on his selection, and viability, of Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh.

"I am proud to be part of Worcestershire County Cricket Club and delighted to be coming back for a third spell," Ajmal said in a club statement.

"I've had this difficult spell of my career with my action, but I knew I would come through it and have had the support not only of Pakistan but also Worcestershire throughout.

"Worcestershire have all the time stood by me, and I can assure them I will repay the faith they have shown in me."

Burki | 9 years ago | Reply @Adnan : LOL ... that is so true! But the irony is that just a couple of months back when these clowns were pilling up runs on the dead dusty bowls of UAE, the jazbati awam back in Pakistan were quick to eulogize them to extremes. I had said it back then that we Pakistanis love to live for the moment. Nobody is bothering to look at the major fault lines that were inherent in the team i.e lack of batting depth, no world class pace attack and sloppy fielding as usual. And on top of all that, team was constantly playing on the dusty bowls of UAE rather than venturing out of Asia. Now that those fault lines have been exposed in rather true challenging conditions, our jazbati awam once again taking it to other extremes in expressing their anger.
