Business persons of the capital have demanded early completion of the Metro Bus Project and rehabilitation of roads and plantation affected by the mega project.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muzzamil Sabri, in a press release on Sunday, said work on the project was sluggish and authorities were not paying attention to address the environmental concerns.

He added that rehabilitation of affected roads lacked quality and demanded immediate plantation and rehabilitation of the affected greenbelts along the route.

The ICCI president said contractors were not following safety and traffic diversion rules, which has created difficulties for traders and residents of the twin cities.

“Many link roads are still closed due to the construction work,” Sabri said, adding that businesses in Blue Area have suffered the most since the project started almost a year ago. He also demanded early completion of footpaths along the route.

The project was earlier expected to be completed by December 2014, but the government blamed the sit-ins by Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri, along with foggy winters, for the delay.
