ISLAMABAD:

The lone survivor of Saturday’s domestic shooting incident in the capital, fifth-grader Abdul Rafay, has left with one of his uncles for his native village.

Since the woman, who killed her husband, three daughters and shot injured Rafay, committed suicide, investigators are simply completing legal formalities of the case.

Kausar Shaheen was married for 11 years, said police.

Rafay’s statement does not make it clear what led to the incident. He recalls that the family was having breakfast when his father was shot and fell on the floor. Following that, she opened fire on all of us, he said, adding that he played dead at the time.

Case closed?

Cases where the accused pass away, end with their death, said SP City Rizwan Gondal.

The police will simply complete legal formalities as per statements of neighbours and the victim, he said. So far, the statements connect it with an earlier domestic dispute.

The SP said the weapon, found on Shaheen, belonged to her husband who had brought it from Karak District. The police have to determine if the bullets were fired from the same pistol, he said.

The police have yet to verify if the couple was divorced as claimed by Rafay. Iqbal Khattak, a brother of the deceased husband, confirmed that Rafay was with them but refused to comment further. “The chapter is closed. This is it,” he said.

Aabpara police have registered a case against the woman.
