ISLAMABAD: A total of 1,077 students received their degrees in a ceremony organised by Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in Islamabad on Tuesday. The students received their undergraduate and graduate degrees in Behavioural Sciences, Arts and Social Studies, Law, Commerce, Science and Technology, Management, and Administrative Sciences.

FJWU also gave gold and silver medals to 54 students for securing top positions in their departments.

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, who is also the chancellor of the university, distributed the degrees. Federal Education Minister Sardar Assef Ahmad and Professor Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan, vice chancellor of FJWU, were also present on the occasion.

Both Taseer and Ahmad emphasised the importance of education for women.

They said that women could contribute significantly to the development of Pakistan if they received proper education.

Ahmad said, “The dream of development cannot be realised without the contribution of women in national development.”

Governor Taseer especially praised Sehrish Jamil, a disabled student from Gilgit-Baltistan, who won a gold medal in Fine Arts. “The enthusiasm of Sehrish Jamil is the sprit of the entire nation,” Taseer said in his speech.
