PESHAWAR: A colorful culture and sports week at the Frontier College for Women University (FCWU) started on Tuesday.

Principal of FCWU, Mrs Nauzat Liaqat, was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the week in which students of various colleges across the province would compete in Qirat (recitation from the Holy Quran), Naat (rhymes in praise of the Holy Prophet), Speeches, Ghazals and Tapay (folk songs) in Pashto.

“We have different committees to generate funds for this occasion,” Liaqat said.

She said that a team of judges has also been constituted from across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) to ensure transparency in the results.

In each of the six different fields, students from various colleges all across the province will be participating. The week is aimed at providing better opportunities to female students to excel and highlight their talents in curricular and co-curricular activities.

Besides these activities, a seminar will also held in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to provide awareness to female students about acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDs) and Hepatitis A, B & C.

The week will continue up till December 6, 2010 .
