Twenty-year-old student Ozgecan Aslan was abducted and clubbed to death by a bus driver who had also allegedly tried to rape her.
With people speaking out against the culture of sexual violence in Turkey and women sharing their experiences of assault and misogyny, men posed in miniskirts on social media to protest against an attitude that goes along the lines of “if a woman is wearing a miniskirt then she is being provocative”.

Many protesters have shared updates on Facebook, slamming the ‘mentality’.
“If a miniskirt is responsible for everything, if [wearing] a miniskirt means immorality and unchastity, if a woman who wears a miniskirt is sending an invitation about what will happen to her, then we are also sending an invitation!”
Though the miniskirt protest has been mainly focused on social media, groups of men were also seen in Istanbul this weekend.
