Addressing a meeting at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati) on Tuesday, he said that in the next three years, 1,100 megawatts were expected to be added to the KESC’s system.
He said that a unit of 560MW was close to completion at the Bin Qasim Thermal Plant and it would start generating 350MW by next year.
He said that the KESC needed 276 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to generate cheaper power, but it was receiving only 180 to 190 mmcfd despite government assurances.
“The KESC has no dispute with the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). However, if the latter supplied more gas, consumers will be supplied cheaper electricity.” said Gauhar.
