Re-verification process: Mobilink achieves half of its target
.
ISLAMABAD:
Amidst some confusion on policy, the management of a cellular company, Mobilink, claimed it is scrambling to meet the government’s deadline for re-verification of SIMs through a biometric verification system (BVS) and has verified 15 million out of its 38 million active SIMs. Talking to media persons the other day, Mobilink Director Corporate Communications Omar Manzur said Mobilink had deployed 19,000 devices across the country for re-verification of SIMs. “However, after the drive started on January 12, additional 4,500 devices were deployed and the number is increasing day by day,” he said. The company is using up to 700 mobile and 700 kiosks to reach and serve the rural areas of the country to re-verify SIMs and meet the government deadline.
