Upcoming fiscal year: SUN-CSA urges budget allocation for nutrition

Sindh government should not only take into account health but also nutrition as an important factor

The Scaling up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance (SUN-CSA) Pakistan convened its first executive council meeting to reiterate their role and commitment in addressing malnutrition and food security in Pakistan.


Dr Tanveer Ahmed, chair of the SUN CSA Pakistan, called for Pakistan to honour its commitments made under the Global SUN Movement.


He urged the provincial governments to allocate a budget for nutrition for the next fiscal year.


“We appreciate the provincial governments taking steps such as endorsing the multi-sectoral nutrition strategies. We strongly urge each provincial government to now focus on the implementation of these strategies,” he said.


Arshad Mahmood, secretary of SUN CSA Pakistan, recalled the famine crisis in Tharparkar, Sindh and suggested that to address the crisis the
Sindh government should not only take into account health but also nutrition as an important factor and focus on implementing its Multi Sectoral Nutrition Strategy to address the issue.
