ISLAMABAD: A US congressional delegation on Wednesday praised Pakistan’s ongoing military operations against militants in North Waziristan Agency and other tribal areas.

The US delegation, led by Senator Jack Reed, the ranking member Senate Armed Services Committee, called on army chief General Raheel Sharif at the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR, matters of mutual interest, including Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the situation in Afghanistan, came under discussion during the meeting. “The senator appreciated Pakistan’s role in counter terrorism efforts,” it added.

The US senator also met Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. He was accompanied by US Ambassador Richard Olson.

“The discussions covered Pakistan-US bilateral relations and the security situation in the region.”

Aziz highlighted Pakistan’s comprehensive and robust measures to counter terrorism and extremism and also briefed the senator about the improvement in Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan.
