Injured doctor: PM pledges Rs100m for treatment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday announced Rs100 million for the treatment of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) cardiology chief who is fighting for his life after being shot by unidentified attackers several days ago. Prof Dr Shahid Nawaz who is currently admitted to the CMH Rawalpindi will be taken aboard for treatment. Meanwhile talking to The Express Tribune, Dr Hafsa Shahid, daughter of Professor Malik, said he will be taken abroad once his condition stabilises. “Currently, he is too critical and we are hoping for a speedy recovery,” she said. Dr Ayesha Ihsani, spokesperson of Pims, said the hospital administration has constituted a committee to oversee security arrangements at the hospital, adding that police is investigating the shooting incident.
