Border violation: 60-year-old killed by Indian troops in Rawalakot sector

Pakistan condemns the incident and lodges protest with India. Urges India to restrain its security forces

RAWALAKOT: A 60-year-old civilian man was killed when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to unprovoked firing along the working boundary in Rawalakot sector on Saturday, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The deceased, Muhammad Aslam, was a resident of Polas village of the sector. He was shot thrice in the abdomen while he was cutting grass 100-150 metres away from the Line of Control.

"Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian aggression," the statement added.

On January 30, an exchange of fire across the Working Boundary between Pakistan and India also left two women injured and several houses damaged.

The Indian troops fired mortars in Charwa sector, which urged the Chenab Rangers to retaliate.

The injured were shifted to a hospital by Rescue 1122.

Pakistan and India have fought two wars over Muslim-majority Kashmir, which both countries administer in part but claim in full.

The two countries traded blame for the upsurge in firing and shelling across the LoC, which started on October 6 last year.

Pakistan protests ceasefire violation

The government of Pakistan lodged a protest with the government of India through diplomatic channels over the casualty of a 60 year old civilian in the Rawlakot sector.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, Pakistan condemned the incident.

“Pakistan called upon India to restrain its security forces from firing on the civilians, and stop the ceasefire violations across the Line of Control and the Working Boundary,” the statement read.

The government offered its condolences to the bereaved family of the victim.
