Crackdown on extremists: Pindi police nab 10 suspects

DCOs have been given powers to issue detention orders under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

RAWALPINDI: The city police in their ongoing swoop on terrorists arrested 10 suspects belonging to banned outfits over the last three days in the Rawalpindi division. A suspect involved in firing on the plane of former president Pervez Musharraf, has also been detained for 30 days and shifted to Adiala Jail. Nadeem, who had been detained earlier but released due to insufficient evidences, was arrested during a raid in Bhosa Godam area on Thursday. The ongoing crackdown was launched after the Punjab Home Department ordered all regional police officers (RPO) and district police officers (DPO) to arrest suspects associated with banned organisations. Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has provided a list of 22 such suspects to Rawalpindi police. DCOs have been given powers to issue detention orders under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
