Olympic association satisfied with security

Security for the 31st National Games 2010 is being provided by the provincial govt of K-P.

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Olympic Association’s (POA) Security Assessment Committee has expressed satisfaction over security arrangements for the 31st National Games 2010 in a meeting held here on Monday. Security for the event is being provided by the provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for the national games, which will start in Peshawar from December 25.

SSP Peshawar Ijaz Ahmad ensured that the security arrangements are fool proof and briefed the committee about arrangements made to ensure security to players, officials and spectators. He said that all law enforcing agencies in the region have assured full cooperation in maintaining law and order during the event.

Provincial Minsiter for Sports Syed Aqil Shah informed the committee that a police control room was being established at Qayum Statium in Peshawar to coordinate police efforts. He said the police will follow the security plan already prepared to prevent any untoward incident during the month of Muharram. “The law and order situation in Peshawar is better now and hopefully the national games will he held as peacefully as the Pukhtunkhwa Games,” he added.

Chairman POA and former IG Punjab Chaudhry Yaqoob, along with other members of the security assessment committee said they were satisfied with the security arrangements for the national games. “We hope that police, Frontier Core and other law enforcing agencies will help make this event a success,” he added.

Deputy Director Sports Col Qaiser Mustafa, Director Security WAPDA Col Mateen, Secretary K-P Olympic Association Zulfiqar Butt, among others also attended the meeting.
