The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in a bid for change of face has decided to leave out senior leaders and pitch new candidates for the upcoming Senate elections.

“MQM has finalised its candidates for the upcoming Senate elections, and has left out senior leaders,” a party source said on Wednesday.

According to party officials, MQM with the support of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is eyeing four seats in the Senate and has finalised the names of Barrister Saif, and Mian Ateeq to contest the elections due on March 3.

Party leaders say that MQM chose Barrister Saif, president of MQM K-P and Fata, Mian Ateeq, president of MQM Punjab, Nighat Khatoon and Raza Zaidi to introduce new faces in politics.

Sources said that although an official announcement has yet to be made, the four candidates are more likely to be selected against senior leaders Waseem Akhtar and Khushbakht Shujaat. Meanwhile, Senator Babar Ghauri has not filed nomination papers for another term in the upper house of parliament.
