Women parliamentarians called for joint efforts to end discrimination against women at a meeting of the general assembly of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) held on Wednesday. WPC Secretary MNA Shaista Pervaiz presided over the meeting where
The National Plan of Action and its targets for achieving gender equality and elimination of violence against women were discussed.
Pervaiz emphasised that a concerted and joint
effort was needed across political lines to bring an end to discrimination and all forms of violence against women.
She said WPC reaffirmed its commitment for making every possible effort for consensus building on gender-sensitive laws covering domestic workers, women in prison and improving state of women policing.
The assembly was also given a briefing by a resource person from Aurat Foundation on “Beijing +20 Review — Journey of 20 Years” followed by a question and answer session.
