"The legal sub-committee has also given their legal opinion and termed these 64 cases fit for military courts,” IG Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali said after a special meeting with the Chief Minister on Monday.
While briefing the Shah, IG said that he had recommended 85 cases to the legal committee for their opinion. The committee, after going through each case, approved 64 cases for trial in military courts.
Jamali said he had recommended 11 cases of West Zone but the legal committee approved 10 cases only. Similarly, out of the 20 cases of South zone, the committee approved six; three cases from Central were approved.
Moreover, out of the seven cases of East Zone, three were approved. Seven out of the 11 cases from Malir were also approved while one case each from of Sukkur, and AVCC have been agreed.
It may be noted that the Legal Committee (sub-committee) comprises the home secretary as its convener, secretary law, and prosecutor general, additional IG (CTD), deputy DG Rangers and AIG (legal) and representatives of the ISI, MI and IB as its members.
Prominent cases approved for military courts include the attack on Justice Maqbool Baqar on June 26, 2013, Karachi airport attack case of June 8, 2014 and murder of advocate Mubarak Raza Kazmi from July 23, 2014, among others.
The chief minister directed the IG to complete all formalities and send the cases to the Ministry of Interior.
