Omitted player’s club head blames captain for throwing the match.

Pakistan’s cricket coach for the Asian Games Sadiq Mohammad has rubbished claims that his team’s loss against Afghanistan in the semi-finals was down to under-performance.

A heated argument took place between wicket-keeper Naeem Anjum and captain Khalid Latif on the eve of the match that resulted in Anjum being dropped. Speaking to a local news channel , Javed Ali Khan, head of the 11-star Club that Anjum plays for in Islamabad, blamed Latif for deliberate poor performance resulting in Pakistan’s loss.

“The allegations come due to Anjum’s omission from the match,” Mohammad told The Express Tribune. “There were no signs of under-performance by any player and I can confirm everyone gave their best.”

A member of the playing eleven also confirmed to The Express Tribune that the heated altercation, after a team meeting, resulted in the accusations.

“Since we want the best for the team, we all pointed each other’s mistakes in the meeting,” he said. “Anjum dropped a few catches and when this was pointed out, he didn’t seem to like this and got involved in an argument with Latif and I think this [the accusation] comes because of his omission.”
