MULTAN:

An anti-terrorism court on Saturday sentenced to death on two counts and life imprisonment a man convicted of rape and murder after 22 years of prosecution.

Prosecution said Latif Ahmed, a resident of Bagh Langay Khan had submitted an application on June 2, 1993, in Cheliak police station, saying that his seven-year-old daughter had disappeared after she had stepped out to buy sweets.

Her body had later been found near a dumpster in Pul Mor Darya. The body was taken to Nishtar Medical Hospital for autopsy. Prosecution said the report had revealed the girl had been beaten and raped before she was killed.

They said police had arrested Munir, a neighbour and a teacher at seminary, in connection with the case. Munir was 28 at the time and married with three children.

On Saturday, the court announced death sentence on two counts, a Rs250,000 fine and life imprisonment for Munir. Talking to The Express Tribune, Latif, 58, said, “During the time my daughter’s case was in court, I met hundreds of families demanding justice for their daughters’ rape or killing."

zaiba | 9 years ago | Reply Why did it need 22 years to convict the rapist? Are the courts and police that incompetent and inept? Munir was allowed to enjoy the prime of his life while the 7 year old girl he murdered was denied hers. Did this man ever confess to his crime? The father claims that he met '100's of families demanding justice for their daughter's rape or killing' .What has changed for the better? Does this country encourage rape or deter it by the weak conviction rate?
