He added that since the movie has been re-mastered, the time is right to screen it in cinemas for Pakistani audiences. However, Mandviwalla noted that since the classic films that have been re-released in Pakistan have not generated business at the Pakistani box office, it remains to be seen whether Sholay can change that trend. Previously, movies such as, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Lion King and Titanic, have been re-mastered and re-released in 3D format in Pakistani cinemas.
Interestingly, Sholay’s release date is the same as that of the Pakistani crime-caper film Jalaibee, which has been directed by Yasir Jaswal. Mandviwalla said this was a strategic move on their part. “March 20 would be a long weekend due to the public holiday on March 23. Plus, the movie is releasing towards the business-end of the ICC Cricket World Cup, so only a few matches would be left,” he explained. “We will gain the day [in business] that we lose to a cricket match through the holiday.”
Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay boasts a star cast featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan. The film was ranked first in the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll of ‘Top 10 Indian Films’ of all time, according to the institute’s website. It was also voted the ‘Best Film of 50 Years’ at the 50th Filmfare Awards, as stated on the website of the annual ceremony.
We're definitely excited to see one of our favourite movies being screened on March 20. However, till then, we would like to reminisce the film with our top five favourite quotes from the film!

They should include a new Item Number with granny Hema Malini to give some perspective on the 'ever green' concept of the movie.
So now Basanti will be dancing in Pakistani Cinemas, sounds merely like a right number.
@MustBeKidding: It's a cult classic! Powerhouse of Performance, music and cinematic treat.
Saw it once long ago. Never understood then what was so great about that movie. Still don't get it.
That Dharmendar garb on top of a water tank and completely inebriated reminds of a famous politician who held his siyasi theatre on top of a container at D-Chowk recently. Just like Veeru, this politician also ended up bagging his very own Basanti after creating so much ruckus and drama.
never seen. only heard. but probably worth watching piece of cinema.
The one and only movie I know that released the entire audio recording of the movie. The dialogues were superb. If I recall correctly, several theaters in India had screened this movie for over 5 years, running 3 shows daily. Amjad Khan, Dharmendra, Amithab Bachan,, Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini were superb in this movie. It was a two and half hour movie with two intervals and the first 70mm Indian movie.
@Shafiq Siddiqui: cra# will be released in pakistan? Most overrated movie of all times.
Big B was not sinking. He had super successes like Zanjeer and Deewar before Sholay.
They were all the top stars of that time.
I have watched this more than 50 times. A very good movie that you can watch with your whole family.
Wow! That's undeniably a Classic by Ramesh Sippy. The grand theory behind the entire movie was great script, untiring dedication and a cast that wasn't a star-cast (back then). Amjad Khan's first prominent role, Big B was sinking in B-Town. Sanjeev Kumar (the first choice for the role of Gabbar Singh) and Dharmendra were the only stars in the movie. And yet, it made history! Looking forward to see this one for the 100th Plus time and for the first time on a Huge Screen!
Very excited to see this movie in theatre...
What an iconic movie..........
