In their separate messages issued on the Kashmir Solidarity Day, the two laid stress on a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute on the basis of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The president said the international community should also draw a distinction between struggle for freedom and terrorism.
“The right to self-determination is a revered principle of international law. But even after more than 67 years, this fundamental right is being denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir despite the fact that this right was promised to them by United Nations in its numerous Resolutions,” his message reads.
Even in the face of adversity, he said, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have continued their struggle.
PM Nawaz said only a just resolution of the Kashmir issue could bring lasting peace in South Asia. “I am certain that no sham elections conducted under the occupation of 700,000 Indian security forces can replace a free and impartial plebiscite,” he said.
Nawaz Sharif assured the Kashmiri people that the people of Pakistan will never abandon their unflinching support for them. “I am sure that in not too distant a future the Kashmiris will achieve their cherished goal.”
The prime minister reaffirmed the steadfast support of the people and government of Pakistan extended to the Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their struggle to achieve their inherent right to decide their future through self-determination.
He said the committed people of Kashmir had consistently been denied their fundamental right despite the pledge given by the United Nations.
“The intensity of human right abuses perpetrated against the Kashmiris has elicited international condemnation,” he added.
He said it was widely known that the innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir were undergoing worst form of human rights violations at the hands of more than 700,000 Indian security forces.
“I salute the Kashmiris for not letting these atrocities deter them from aspiring for their legitimate right to self-determination enshrined in the UN Charter,” he added.

Hi Pakistani friends, How did you enjoy your holiday yesterday?
Fact of the matter is ... we has neglected Azaad JK whereas India has done a much better job in trying to integrate their part of Kashmir. Every year our leaders cry crocodile tears for Kashmiris and then forget about them later. It's time Kashmiris wake up and smell the pudding.
@Pakhtun:" do u know that Pakhtuns (which form the majority of the pop. of kpk and half of the pop of Balochistan) make up 25% of the Pak army"
Inspite of that and inspite of Baluchistan being the power bowl of Pak , you have to spend days with power and water. Can't you ask your Govt to have some real plans for you implemented instead of the 65% to Punjab , 25% to Sindh and the balance to other provinces and Agency areas?
Sharif maybe spot on -- India doesn't have clean hands when it comes to Kashmir - unfortunately Pakistan's reputation is so tarnished nobody is going to pay attention.
In the mean time... Kashmiris are spotlighting the plight of Pakistanis.
@Pakhtun: Rest are Punjabis, right? And, what did you say the percentage of Pakhtun officers in the army was? It's reminiscent of the days when Bangladesh was East Pakistan and in the armed forces, the Bengalis were insignificant, both in number and position.
NS dont waste time repeating the same dialogue...better focus on something productive in pak(remove terror setups, tame isi,) there will peace all over the world
god bless u
@Paktun: And are the other 75% Punjabis who rule Pakistan... like Mr. NS and Gen RS?
When Pakistani Politicians cannot fix internal governance problems of Pakistan (and there is plenty of that) and when Military Generals need more attention, money, importance then they raise the issue of Kashmir AS PRIORITY NUMBER ONE. Does Pakistan not remember that it lost half its country in December 1971? And half of the half that is remaining on the Western side of current Pakistan is on fire? Do Pakistanis not realize that vast majority of Kashmiri Muslims are hooked and connected to India’s prosperity and development in the lower states of India? Why would Kashmiri Muslims, even though tied with just the religious cord go to Pakistan when that religious cord amongst Muslims in Pakistan is under fire? Think, Mr. PM Sharif!!!
@Rana Jeet: do u know that Pakhtuns (which form the majority of the pop. of kpk and half of the pop of Balochistan) make up 25% of the Pakistan Army......
Just a Photo session!
Its high time World takes notice of atrocities against people of Indian-occupied Kashmir by Indian forces. Referendum is our right and no state can take it from us!
I think pakistan has finished killing all the shias in pakistan. Now they want Indian kashmir so that they can kill their shias too. Let them live in India in peace please.
If you stop sending terrorists into kashmir, there is no need for 700,000 army and they will live peacefully like they lived before 1989, the year when afghan war ended and pakistan had a lot of unemployed militants which they started pushing into india.
Take a break guys. Let Kashmir become paradise again.
NS is the same person who handed over the list of kashmiri freedom fighters. Can't trust his two faced policies
If you allow a Pakistani into your lawn, next he will be having a barbecue in your garage
YEAR 2050
India News : India finally becomes World's No.1 economy, first Asian country to remove 100% poverty, ISRO lands man on Mars and makes colony, .....
Pakistan News : Pakistani PM Bilawal's son Rulawal Bhutto says "There will not be peace in the region unless Kashmir dispute is solved, pleads UN and US to intervene"........
Observing Kashmir Solidarity Days and passing condemnation resolutions against Indian occupation on Kashmir are never the solution of Kashmir issue but wastage of time and money because thus India is never going to resolve Kashmir issue just by passing condemnation resolutions and observing Kashmir solidarity days even worldwide because UNO and other Western and European countries are never practically interested in playing any role in regard of resolving the Kashmir's issue......
@someone: He should be, but not on this day as we all stand with people in Indian occupied Kashmir.
Well fed, heavy set man who never smiles, and rules like a Mughal Emperor, though he is descended from Jats hindus, is sitting there looking lost.
I Express solidarity with the people of Baluchistan and KP, and urge the UN General Assembly and international community to play their role in redressing the plight of hapless people of the Baluchistan and KP and help them in getting freedom
Should not NS be more worried about the sham election of Pakistan as blamed by IK?
