BANNU: At least three suspected militants were killed and another injured during a clash with security forces at the Frontier region of Janikhel Bannu on Wednesday.

Officials said that security forces were engaged in a search operation at Janikhel when a group of militants resisted the operation. Both sides entered an encounter which lasted for half an hour.

A leading tribal elder, Malik Movez Khan had survived a bomb attack on his vehicle in the same vicinity.

After chairing the Jirga of leading elders Khan’s vehicle was targeted by militants with an Improvise Explosive Devise (IED) in Janikhel.

The tribal elders from Frontier Region of Bakakhel have already established a peace lashkar against militants in accordance to the government's advice.

Tribal elders from Janikhel are working on the same task but are facing resistance from militants and their supporters.

Earlier this morning, a bomb disposal squad defused explosives which had been planted outside a government school in Bannu.

Security forces cordoned off the area until the explosives were defused and removed.
