KARACHI:

The bail application of an alleged Ameer of the banned militant outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, was thrown out by the Sindh High Court on Tuesday as the prosecution insisted it had sufficient evidence against him in an explosives and illicit arms case.

The bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, directed the anti-terrorism court (ATC) to decide the case within three months. Applicant Sheikh Muhammad Athar had filed for bail from the Karachi jail through his lawyer.

The prosecution alleged he was arrested after a police encounter in possesion of a large cache of arms and explosives.

The applicant's lawyer said that the trial was pending before the ATC for over a year without any reason. He argued that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to connect him to the alleged offence.
