K-p public accounts committee: Committee to probe LG finances

A committee was constituted to investigate how Rs4.8 million went missing from the government treasury.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has constituted a committee to probe financial irregularities in the local government and rural development department. The panel was formed during a PAC meeting on Tuesday. According to insiders, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Shaukat Yousafzai will head the body which will comprise Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) MPA Mufti Syed Janan and Awami National Party (ANP) lawmaker Syed Jafar Shah. During the meeting, participants discussed the audit report of the local government and rural development department from 2010-11. The PAC voiced its disappointment over the financial irregularities. It directed those responsible for the misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs1 million to help recover the amount, threatening to register an FIR against them if they failed to do so. Moreover, a committee was constituted to investigate how Rs4.8 million went missing from the government treasury.
