QUETTA:

Armed militants abducted six officials, including an assistant engineer, supervisors and their driver from the site of an under construction dam near Kech and Gwadar districts on Monday.

According to paramilitary force officials, a dozen armed men carried out an audacious gun attack on the construction site in Shadi Khor, before abducting the construction workers.

“The armed men kidnapped six people from the site and fled the scene in their pick up van,” a Levies official confirmed while talking to The Express Tribune. Within hours of the incident, the outlawed Baloch Republican Army claimed responsibility for the kidnappings.

In a terse statement issued after the attack, Sarbaz Baloch, a spokesperson for the banned separatist group said “BRA carried out the attack.” Baloch also claimed that his group had blown up gas pipelines near Jaffarabad and Sohbatpur.

Levies officials in Turbat and Gwadar have opened an investigation into the incident.
