Pakistan among top five 'least favourable' countries for Britons: survey

LONDON: Research carried out by think-tank Chatnam House on British attitudes towards other countries found that Pakistan had ranked fourth in the top five of the least favourable non-European countries, The Independent reported.

The survey -- titled ‘Internationalism or Isolation? -- was conducted in August 2014 and ranked North Korea as the least favourable non-European nation with 47 per cent of Britons having an unfavourable attitude towards the country.

Closely behind were Israel, Iran Pakistan and Nigeria. Pakistan dropped four points since 2012 and is now seen as unfavourable by 28%. Unfavourable feelings for Iran also dropped from 45% to 33% since 2012, the report noted.

Unfortunately for Israel, unfavourable attitude towards the country rose by 18 per cent since 2012 and stood at 35 per cent following the survey.

For those nations within Europe, Russia was the most disliked as unfavourable feelings towards Putin's led nation stood at 56 per cent, followed by Ukraine at 23 per cent.

Most favourable non-European countries for Britons were Australia (47%), Canada (44%), USA (37%) and Japan (15%).
