The safest city in the world is.....

The index ranked Indian capital Delhi as 42nd safest city in the world, while Dubai is left out of top 50

It is Tokyo, which out shines cities such as Zurich, Sydney and New York to be declared Safest City in the world.

According to the “The Safe Cities Index 2015” report by The Economist, which identified 50 safest cities in the world, the Japanese capital topped with a score of 85.63. Singapore came second with 84.61 ahead of another Japanese city, Osaka.

The only US city to make to the top 10 was New York, which was ranked 10th with the score of 78.08. Out of the 50 cities, 26 are national capitals.

The index, which measures the relative level of safety of the world’s leading cities, rated every city using four main categories of safety namely: digital security, health security, infrastructure safety and personal safety.

Interestingly, while index fails to mention cities like Dubai in its top 50 list, the report ranked Indian capital Delhi at 42, and Mumbai at 44. Delhi has been in the headlines over the past year with high profile rape cases and even drawing the ire as one of the most polluted city in the world.

The report notes that while safety is closely linked to wealth and economic development, as evident from only cities of the developed world making it to the top half of the list, high-income city does not guarantee a spot on the index. Of the high income cities from the Gulf, Abu Dhabi is the highest rated city at 25, out of four high-income Middle Eastern cities on the list.
