Tastes like ...: Man, son held for selling donkey meat

TAXILA: A man and his son were apprehended for allegedly selling donkey meat to various restaurants in Taxila, said a media report on Thursday. Police said that the suspects, Razzaq and his son, Yasir, were selling donkey meat ‘labelled’ as beef to various hotels and restaurants in the city. During preliminary investigation, the suspects admitted that they had slaughtered more than 60 donkeys with the alleged support of food department officials. He further disclosed that they were paying Rs200 per day to a local food inspector for quality stamping. When the raid was conducted, the donkey meat was being cut up, said an official, adding that a slaughtered animal and five live donkeys were recovered from their possession. A case has been registered against them under the Slaughter Control Act.
