Lakhvi’s acquittal plea: Magistrate seeks record from Golra police

The govt has extended Lakhvi's detention, without bail.

ISLAMABAD:

A lower court on Thursday sought from the Golra police record of a kidnapping case against Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks.

Judicial Magistrate Naveed Khan asked the Golra SHO to submit the record before the court on Friday.

Lakhvi has filed a petition in the trial court seeking his acquittal in the six-year-old ‘kidnapping’ case. His counsel informed the court that the FIR was registered with mala fide intention.

The Golra police station had registered the case against Lakhvi on the complaint of Muhammad Dawood who alleged that the suspect had kidnapped his brother-in-law. The court had sent Lakhvi on a 14-day judicial remand.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration had extended the detention of Lakhvi under section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) till February 18.

Lakhvi, the commander of the proscribed militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was arrested for his alleged involvement in planning, financing and executing the November 26, 2008 attacks on Mumbai’s landmarks that left 160 people dead.

He was granted post-arrest bail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on December 18 last year. However, the federal government extended his detention.
