Shame : Man,wife arrested for beating up child maid

Child beaten up because she had stolen Rs. 1000 from them.

Muslim Town police arrested Kaleem Chaudhry and his wife Saima on Wednesday night on charges of beating up a 10-year-old domestic helper. Police have obtained 14 days physical remand and are investigating. Iqbal Town Investigation SP Ijaz Shafi Dogar told The Express Tribune that Saima and Chaudhry had confessed to beating up the child because “she had stolen Rs1,000” from them. He said the couple was in lock up.

One of Chaudhry’s neighbours said the husband and wife used to regularly scold and beat up the child. On Tuesday night, neighbours heard the child screaming and alerted the police.

A team of policemen and Child Protection Bureau assistant director Fayyaz visited the house and took the girl with them. The Muslim Town investigation officer said that in her statement, 10-year-old Unsara said that they had accused her of stealing Rs1,000. They used abusive language, yelled at her and beat her up. The IO said that her hands and feet were swollen and she was bruised all over. He said that the girl had been handed over to the Child Protection Bureau and would be handed over to her family.
