New Delhi’s concerns were conveyed to Interior Minister Rehman Malik by Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal during a meeting at the interior ministry on Saturday evening, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.
Sabharwal reiterated concerns expressed by Indian external affairs ministry on eve of second anniversary of attack regarding lack of “substantive and verifiable progress” in the ongoing trial of Pakistani suspects, a spokesman for the Indian High Commission told PTI.
“The high commissioner expressed hope that expeditious action would be taken to bring all the perpetrators to justice,” the spokesman said.
Earlier on Saturday, Interior Minister Malik said the trial of seven Pakistani suspects has been held up because of India’s delay in granting permission for a commission to visit New Delhi to interview key witnesses.
The commission needs to visit India to validate the lone surviving attacker Ajmal Kasab’s statement as it forms a key part of case, he said.
“The delay is not from Pakistan’s side. We have proposed to India that a Pakistani commission visit New Delhi to validate Kasab’s statement, but New Delhi has not given any response so far. The delay is from the Indian side,” Malik added.
