Taseer was shot dead in Islamabad by Qadri, who at the time also served as Taseer's security guard. Qadri had cited Taseer's views on the country's blasphemy laws as his motive for the murder. The late governor was shot 25 times by the appellant.

As a result, Qadri had filed an appeal before the court on October 6, 2011 challenging the death sentence awarded by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on October 1, 2011.
The case was adjourned till February 3, 2015 during the hearing as Advocate General and Additional Deputy General sought time to prepare arguments on the case.

@jamor: Regardless whether this judge shaukat aziz Siddiqi kissed this monster or not, we all know he is an extremist and terrorist sympathizer. He represented the lal masjid terrorists. He forced the police to add terrorist charges to Musharraf's case when it would have been a simple bail, just to have him arrested so he could take revenge for the lal masjid operation. He should have recused himself then and he should have recused himself now but he shamelessly sits on these cases. He must be impeached.
@Rumormonger: The lawyer who kissed Quadri is a different person. He is just a look alike of the judge. They are two different people.A TV channel who showed the picture has apologised to the judge for making this mistake
@Ghulaam:
Stop lying,, he has pleaded 'not guilty', no one is forcing him to contest appeals. He has denied committing the crime in his testimony in writing and in Court. He is a coward, that is all he is.
@Ghulaam: Why these relations are not letting him hit the highway to heaven, after all that’s what he desires most, doesn’t he???
@Shafqat Ali: Surely not to kill you. Didn't your parents teach you any different?
@Ghulaam: He's a coward who's now sniveling for his life. Let us send him and the "crores" you speak of to heaven. Your lot will be happy and so will we. It's a win-win situation. We want to live on this earth you can live up on the 7th sky or wherever heaven is currently located.
@Shafqat Ali: our response would be to ignore you. Not kill you. We're not barbaric people.
@Fazal Dad:
Very well said
There are two kinds of lawyers and judges in Pakistan when we talk about Mr. Taseer's Murder case. Ones who are coward and the ones who consider this crime a justified act. Both kinds are corrupt and rotten. To say the least, it's a shame...
@Pindi Kid: What would be your response if i abuse your faith or religion...?
@Fahad: Shame on you is a very little word.
Nothing will happen to Qadri in the country where lawlessness is the supreme law. Noone can take risk of handling the case of Qadri at the cost of his own life. People like are considered heroes in the land of the pures.
justice system must go through a due process even for a self confessed killer. Killing a person is a decision which should not be causally taken . otherwise it would be a lynching. In the main Graveyard oh Lahore " MIani Sahib" there is a small Tomb dedicated to Ghazi Ilm Din " Its history will be very instuctive to all people sadly it shows what happened people insult deeply held beliefs of others. We need to be respect other religions in words and deed.
What's the Rush? Linger on for few more years.. .....!! Afraid of Military Courts. ......
No mercy, no pardon. A criminal is criminal, is criminal, is criminal (Margret Thatcher). Just send him to his 72 anxiously waiting for him.
What ? Do I read correctly that Advocate General and Deputy Advocate General have sought time for preparing the case. What were they doing all these years- three rears. After the confession by Qadri the case becomes very straight and simple. I smell the rat in this extension.
If Pakistan is serious about eliminating religious extremism then this guy should be put at the front of the execution line - he's already admitted his guilt.
@Ghulaam: That is a lame excuse. No one can authorize an appeal except the convict himself. If he really wanted to die then no force in the world could have stopped his execution. Proves he is a coward who betrayed his uniform to protect Taseer and killed an unarmed person. Now he should be man enough to face hanging by stopping this appeal. But we don't expect you to be knowledgeable since you obviously are a follower of qadri and this dark ideology.!
its a barelvis and deobandis fight among Pakistani Sunnis, others pick which one to support based on their interests. Pakistanis are divided because of these sectarian issues, and countries like Iran, India, US are finding it easy to deal with a divided Pakistan.
This is a litmus test for Pakistan. Which way will the country go? Is MQ not a plain and simple murderer?
If it was upto Nawaz, he will make this convict President of Pskistan, What a promotion from constable to top positiom it will be for a murderer. How about the other dirty dozen police officers who kept watchimg when Governor was shot 25 times. No case against them. They deserve to become cabinet mimisters. Let Gulu Butts rule this country,
I thought he did for gaining heaven...now why an appeal against it... change of heart?
Cowards
@ Ghulaam,
Qadri and crores of those who seek Jannat then should realize that they are in the wrong place. Please find a solution to your desire and I Promise I will Help.
How can you expect justice from this judiciary? http://new-pakistan.com/2014/06/06/impeach-shaukat-aziz-siddiqui/
This is not just a case of Mumtaz Qadri but it is very importantly a case of this dark ideology that is eating the country from inside. This case is against all those who celebrated and defended this cold blooded killer and his ideology, including the shameless ones in the judiciary like shaukat aziz siddiqi. It is a test for the civilian govt whether it has the will and ability to enforce the writ of the state, or will it fail the nation.
Nice to hear some sane voices
This is a test case case to see if the government has the guts to stand by all it has said in the NAP it so loudly trumpeted after the Peshawar killings.
@Fatima Muhammad: You should be informed of the reality that he did and does indeed seek to be martyred, only his family members and people around him are pursuing appeal cases, for what is desired by crores of people.
@Emjay: He did seek to be hanged and did not beg for the government's mercy. It is his family members and people around him that are appealing the decision. He receives massive support of people around him and elsewhere in the country who like to see him out of the jail.
I thought these people are not scared of death in their noble cause. So why is he appealing against the death sentence?
What could be more reflective of Pakistan Judiciary that Defense consul is made to hear the case.
Thanks to the Military courts these coward judges can carry on as usual and this person should be hanged by the military court. Was this not the basic idea of Military courts?
The judge Shaukat Siddiqui, who is dealing with this case was a lawyer of the accused three years ago. He kissed this crook in front of the camera to show how big a hero this rascal was in his eyes. So what can you expect from this judge. Why do we have goldfish memories?
Shouldn't he be dying to go to "Jannat" for which he did that crime? So lets send him to his desired place.
If Mumtaz Qadri believes that shooting the Governor was just, he shouldn't be scared of the death sentence. Why has he appealed to the court?
I am Pakistani and I wish him to be "HANGED IN PUBLIC" !!!!! Enough of religious extremism !!!!!!
The law must be applied, with fear of favor.
This is a coward govt. that is too scared to prosecute this self confessed killer. I mean, it has been 3 years and the prosecutor is still not prepared? How complicated is the case when he has confessed? Shameful for the NS govt. That is why military courts are needed because the civilian govt cannot do its job. Moreover, who are the judges hearing the case? Why is ET not naming them? Earlier we heard justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui would be hearing the case. Yes, you heard it right, the same person who showered flowers on this killer is not only a judge in IHC but will also hear this case! I say send this to the military courts for speedy sentence and execution.
mumtaz qadri case is irrelevant in this lawless and unconscious mob dominated country, law sleeps on bed of power brokers, when state fail then people tend to take law into their hands, mumtaz qadri is being honored and considered divine as per perceptions of the peoples taught them at their school, change your curriculum and make law as sweeping case, the mumtaz qadri likes would never be garlanded and emerged as hero, otherwise he is likely to remain hero even after death penalty be executed and another mumtaz qadr will emerge, this also proves the futility of the courts when judiciary looks toward streets instead of letting the law to take his course, this is the same judiciary which claim to have justice be served even if sky fall
What else is there to argue about? He is a self professed Ghazi. Doesn't he want to go to the Jannah, he earned through his deed?
Its a shame he can't be put to death by courts. He should be set free and then perhaps he should be made to meet the Maker
Cowards! Cowards! Cowards!
